On 11 September 1893, Swami
Vivekananda delivered the Historic Chicago Speech in America, where he put
forward the message of Universal Brotherhood and Universal tolerance that this
country wanted to communicate to the World. To commemorate this auspicious day
Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari celebrates the day as Universal Brotherhood
Day. A series of programme was organized by VKV Tinsukia and Vivekananda Kendra
Kanyakumari’s Tinsukia Branch. Morning two teams of teachers and students went
to the Bor Laipuli Village School and Indira Gandhi Vidyalaya, Laipuli to celebrate
the day with the students and teachers of the Schools. In our Campus a small
programme was organized where renowned writer Smt. Juri Bora Borgohain spoke to
the teachers and students about the importance of the day as the Chief Guest.
Evening 4.30 p.m. there was a grand celebration organized by Vivekananda
Kendra, Branch Tinsukia where the Chief Guest was Dr. Diganta Biswa Sharma, a researcher
on Swami Vivekananda, Guest of honour was Sri Debabrata Dey, the DSP of
Tinsukia, Mananeeya Pravin Davolkar, Jt General Secretary, VK and Purnendu
Shekhar Das, Nagar Sanchalak VK Tinsukia. More than 250 people were present in
the programme. Borgeet, Jhumur Dance and lectures by dignitaries were the
events of the programme.
